Get to know London based artist David Galan!

Born in Madrid and now based in London David's textures and patterns play a main role in his artwork. Clean compositions and geometrical shapes creates his particular world, in which day life objects are re-born in a new Pop Art from 21st Century.

What is your main practice? Did you study at University? (if so what in ?)

I’m an artist who works on mix media mainly. My technique is a mixture in between collage and painting. I create my own patterns and designs to develop my artworks.

I am a self taught artist. I come from digital and 3D design, but over the years I’ve been trying different techniques and explore art through experimentation.

What inspires your designs, do you have a creative process you go through? If so what steps does this include?

My artwork is always inspired by colour. As a Spaniard I try to bring to my designs the happiness and way of life of my cultural background.

You have lots of prints, do you have a favourite?

It will be difficult to chose one favourite, but probably my favourites are among my coffee pot series.

Do you like any other creative method? – if so which ones?

I really enjoy doing screen print and linocuts, and I always open to try new things.

Any advice for anyone that is thinking of starting their own independent brand?

Work hard and value yourself as an artist. It took me long time to call myself an artist and now I know that you’re one since the first time you sit down to create and express yourself.

Do you have any favourite designers that you take inspiration from?

I have many references and people that I follow their work. Picasso it’s always been very present but nowadays with internet you discover amazing talented people. Lately I’m very interested on Bisa Butler, Mersuka Dopazo, Lita Cabellut, James Price and a few more.

What does your art mean to you?

Art allows me to express my inner world, and I couldn’t live without creating. It’s a way for me to evolve as a person. Stimulates my imagination what it is a good training for my daily life.

Any big plans for the future? Any cool collaborations lined up that we should watch out for?

Well, I’m trying to do as much as I can to get into The Other Art Fair organised by Saatchi’s gallery on 2022. So hopefully I could get a chance to show my artwork on a big scale.
